The collection and marketing of precious metals is part one of the missions assigned to SEM in accordance with the Strategic Plan for an Emerging Gabon (PSGE).
In June 2012, SEM created the Comptoir Gabonais de Collecte de l’Or (CGCO) etand in October 2014, the Fonds Gabonais d’Investissements Stratégiques joined CGCO’s body of shareholders by acquiring 40% of the company’s shares.
CGCO has four buying centers (Makokou, Ndjolé, Okondja, Lastourville, Mitzic and Mouila) which have totaled 100 kg of raw gold processed into ingots since 2013. The output was sold to Caisse de Dépôt et de Consignation which is responsible for building gold reserves on behalf of the government.
CGCO’s buying centers enable building proximity and trust relationships with artisanal gold miners who are provided assistance with collection good practices.
